A cataract is a common condition that causes a clouding of the eye's natural lens. Cataracts affect millions of people each year, including more than half of all Americans over the age of 65.
Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness in the U.S. It occurs when the pressure inside the eye rises, damaging the optic nerve and causing vision loss. The condition often develops over many years without causing pain or other noticeable symptoms - so you may not experience vision loss until the disease has progressed.
LASIK improves vision safely and precisely by reshaping the cornea to correct nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. Vision improves within minutes, and most patients eventually enjoy 20/20 vision or better after treatment.
Patients should see their doctor for a comprehensive eye exam every one to three years, depending on their age, risk of disease and overall physical condition. Children should have regular tests to ensure the proper development of their vision and prevent any interference with their academic achievements.

It has grown from one physician to now five full time practicing ophthalmologists and two part time doctors. Our office is open six days a week, including Saturdays, with evening appointments available as well.
Our practice consists of three general ophthalmologists, two glaucoma specialists and a cornea specialist. We offer services ranging from eye exams and refractions to the latest in cataract surgery techniques and lens implants such as Crystalens, ReSTOR and Toric. We have a full range of ophthalmic diagnostic and laser equipment for screening and treating glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. Our surgeons are on staff at Saint Joseph's Hospital (formerly New Island Hospital) and are an affiliate practice of the North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health System. We perform nearly all of our surgeries at the Garden City Surgicenter. Our optical shop makes glasses in-house and offers a large selection of frames.
